Quest For The Melon Mobiles

blog-2006-06-19-15-27-57-1-copy.jpgFlashback! Beaufort, SC. Just outside of town, they are busy harvesting watermelons & tomatoes this time of year.

While standing in front of the Gullah Club restaurant, several giant make-shift melon carts came buzzing along. Each was made out of an old school bus.

To morph into a melon mobile, they cut out most of the school bus’ roof so that they can then load them to the brim with melons from above. I would assume the seats have been ripped out.

These melon mobiles were some incredibly enticing photographic food. So, I set up an impromptu stakeout and waited for another to pass, to no avail.

After some time, I gave up and struck out behind the wheel of my Element to discover the land of the melon mobiles. I was headed into the fields to find them at their source. I never did find them, but I did happen upon this wonderful setting of tomatoes bathing in the sun.
