Pa, Adam, Hoss and Little Joe

Lake Tahoe, California. Not far from the original Ponderosa Ranch of the television show, Bonanza, this mighty Ponderosa towers over the road less traveled.

Lake Tahoe, California

Reportedly, the original Ponderosa Ranch permanently closed to the public in the Fall of 2004 upon purchase by a local developer.

So, even the home of Pa, Adam, Hoss and Little Joe isn’t safe from the relentless march in the name of “progress.” Oh, the irony! Bonanza, the show, was another meaningful milestone in that it was the first American television show shot completely in color.

The show got its name, “Bonanza,” from the Comstock Lode. The word Bonanza means, “exceptionally large and rich mineral deposit.” Shout out to my friends, Michelle & Dean Comstock, sending that trivia tidbit specially for you.

Ok I now have the Bonanza song stuck in my head. Just thinking about that song makes me want to go horseback riding. Oh I wish. Then there’s The Big Valley with Barbara Stanwyck. I’m showing how old I am. LOL

Be safe…

Is this a really big tree, or is this trick photography?

Lora > I hope that song isn’t STILL stuck in your head! Ah, yes… The Big Valley. How bout Gunsmoke, too.

Frank > It was a really big tree! Although, the barrel distortion I left in the shot may accentuate the perceived height.

After reading your question, I looked up Ponderosa Pines on Wikipedia. I was amazed how many varieties there are. Interesting reading: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ponderosa_Pine
