Kentucky - Unbridled Spirit

Musings from a Kentucky KOA. It has been a while since I have had the pleasure of being in Kentucky. It is a beautiful state. I find driving the roads as they meander through the picturesque hills a relaxing and invigorating experience.

But the last time I visited, not everyone residing here was relaxed. And, many had become invigorated. All the hoopla started over the state’s car license plate/design that was enforce at the time. It was a colorful plate with a centered, smiling sunburst.

sa-ky-2003nd-z.jpgI’ll admit, the smiling sun was a little much. I couldn’t help but think of the TeleTubbies. That crazy sun kept laughing at me. There were many here who hated the overly cheery plate. In fact, an underground movement started to deface Mr. Smiley face. Sad-face stickers were systematically placed over the child-like sun-of-fun.

The whole thing was incredibly amusing. Now, the state has a new slogan, a new logo and a new license plate…

Kentucky. Unbridled Spirit. I love it. It does seem to capture the essence of Kentucky - for both the men and women who live here… even though the rest of the license plate is somewhat flat.
