Dog Attacks!
Arkansas. Today, I was minding my own business enjoying a cool, brisk Autumn day in the Arkansas countryside… then, it happened.
I had been standing on the side of the road, crouched over my tripod taking shoots for the “signs” project. After a while, I had become immersed in the shooting, trying various compositions and exposures.
Squatting down looking through the camera’s viewfinder, I heard the “crunch, crunch, crunch” sound of running steps on the winter’s grass. Something, or someone, was on quick approach from behind. I turned to look right just as something hairy was go for my right arm.
Startled, I jumped back and instinctively yelled some sort of grunt. Or, was it more like I grunted some sort of yell? Aaaauuugh!
From the ground I looked up to see an incredibly friendly looking golden retriever running away. He then turned back to make sure I was okay. It sure did look like he (or, she) was contemplating a Lassie-like run for help.
He was just looking to meet a new friend. I was just looking to regain my composure and a steady heartbeat. Snapped this shot as the retriever looked back at me. It looks somewhat menacing in that the shot is blurred. I was still shaking. I do prefer this photo over the subsequent, sharper images. It seemed to best capture the moment.
Surprised he didn’t actually attack? That makes two of us.
Lessons Learned: Be more alert of my surroundings. Drink less coffee.
